 Position Announcement – Volunteer Manager

Volunteer Manager Position Profile

The Volunteer Manager is responsible for managing every aspect of the Help Center’s volunteer process:  recruiting, training, scheduling, supervising and recognizing volunteers as well as community outreach and executive director support.   The Volunteer Manager promotes and advocates for an organizational culture that values volunteers, supports their development, retention and leadership at the Help Center.

Volunteer Manager will:

  •  recruit, interview and screen volunteer candidates

  •  orient / train new volunteers

  •  supervise and support volunteers

  •  routinely acknowledge contributions of volunteers

  •  ensure sufficient staffing during Help Center open hours

  •  build volunteer program capacity to help create sustainability for the organization

  •  maintain volunteer position descriptions and procedure manuals

  •  maintain volunteer files / data base

  •  conduct annual refresher training

  •   provide ongoing communication to current volunteers

  •   assess, evaluate and report on the volunteer program on a regular basis

  •   terminate volunteers when necessary

  •   plan volunteer appreciation events throughout the year

  •   speak to community groups to promote Help Center and recruit potential volunteers

  •  share information, knowledge and ideas with staff and volunteers· understand the role and tasks of the executive director, fill-in during vacation

  • assist in general operations as needed:  answering the phone, accepting donations, greeting clients, assisting with fundraising projects and community events

  • work as part of the overall team to ensure the Help Center’s operations run smoothly and staff, clients, donors and volunteers are welcomed and their needs are addressed

  • other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • college degree preferred

  •  Spanish as a second language a plus

  •  must have phone and computer access away from the workplace

  •  previous volunteer experience; experience managing people

  •  excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • excellent relationship building and problem solving skills

  •  ability to effectively relate to persons of diverse ages, backgrounds, skills and abilities

  •   proficient in use of computer applications (Microsoft Office, email, internet)

  •   ability to travel throughout area for meetings and events (with mileage reimbursed)

  •   willingness to help in all areas as needed

Salary Range

$12.50-$15.00 per hour
